Samantha Stosur dumps Marina Erakovic to reach the third round – Family Circle Cup 2013
Australian number one, Samantha Stosur, had no real trouble in disposing of her fellow compatriot, Marina Erakovic, in the second round brawl of the Family Circle Cup on Wednesday. The third seeded Aussie took 73 minutes to settle
the battle in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, marching into the third round of the WTA Premier-level tournament in Charleston, USA.
It was the second meeting between the two Australians and Stosur repeated her dominant performance once again to impose a 2-0 head-to-head lead over Erakovic. She had defeated the 25-year-old in 2008 in Seoul and the Wednesday’s
encounter was no different. Stosur spared merely three games for Erakovic in the entire matchup and raced through the two set with the utmost ease.
"I'm really pleased with the way I went out there and played today," Stosur said after the match. "I went for my serve a lot and whenever I had the opportunity I tried to get the ball off the court. That's why it really worked
so well and helped me think out there, 'Okay, this is going well, I've got to keep at it. I probably didn't expect to win my first match back one and two. But as the match went on I felt really good and the way I was playing all came together. And of course
I really enjoy playing on this court, so I always try to do my best every time I'm out there."
Stosur was off to a flying start in the opening set, breaking her opponent in her first serve game to reach 3-0. Erakovic held just one serve game before she suffered another cracking blow in the sixth game to fall back 1-5. The
third seeded Aussie served out the opener at 5-1 to get the upper hand in the contest.
Erakovic had a steady start in the following set and held her opening two serve to take the scores to 2-2. Stosur shifted her gears in the next game, nailing two successive break points in the fifth and seventh games to wrap up
the match for her at 6-2.
Stosur will take on the Canadian qualifier, Eugenie Bouchard, in the third round.
