Samantha Stosur has an effortless win over Aleksandra Wozniak in the 2nd round – Rogers Cup 2011
Samantha Stosur defeated Aleksandra Wozniak in the second round of the Rogers Cup 2011 in a straight set victory of 6-3, 6-4 at the Rexall Centre in York University, Toronto Canada.
The two players were meeting for the fifth time, prior to this event Wozniak was leading the head-to-head 3-1. It was time for world number 11 (Samantha) to replace her dignity against the world number 150 (Wozniak)
The match was set and opening with confidence was Wozniak as she had won most of her matches against Stosur. Both the players had struck one double fault each but Stosur was feeling lucky and was able to smash an extra against
her opponent.
With a defence as strong as an ox, Stosur did not let Wozniak take a single break point opportunity and instead capitalized on 50% of her break points won. While Wozniak’s defence failed her and she was only able to win 28% in
her first return, along with, a mediocre second return she put together an appalling 32% of her total return points won.
The 27-year-old (Stosur) also didn’t have a strong defence but it was average and so she was able to win 45% of her total return points. However, Stosur’s  was well on her serves, with a sturdy and powerful forehand she smashed
her opponent away, winning 68% of her total service points, against her opponent, who managed to win a mediocre 55% in her total service points.
The Australian won the set by accomplishing a total of 58% of her total set points, while her adversary could only muster a bare 42%.
The home girl (Wozniak) had taken a severe beating in the first set and it crushed her mentality. During the second set, the 23-year old (Wozniak) was unable to make a comeback and by the mercy of the Higher Power, Stosur finally
won her second match against the Canuck.
By the second set Stosur had perfected her accuracy along with her defence as she did not setup a single break point situation for her opponent but instead break her opponent once and gained an edge over her.
Both the players had struck an ace each but Wozniak had a failing precision that resulted in 3 net balls and hence she lost some points.
Both the players had similar points and there was really not much of a difference in their style of play, however, Stosur had achieved 66% in her total service points, along with, 36% in her total return points, while, Wozniak
had won 64% and 34% in total service and return points respectively, hence, there was a difference of 2% between Wozniak’s and Stosur’s, who with that difference not only won the set but also the match.
