Samantha Stosur is all set to end the drought of victories at Wimbledon – Tennis News
World number five, Samantha Stosur, is pumped up to play risky tennis at Wimbledon this year to end her barren form in the year’s third Grand Slam Championship. The Aussie superstar is the reigning US Open Champion, the Grand Slam
even that is played on hard courts. She reached the semi-final of the Roland Garros French Open this year; falling out to the 21st seed Italian, Sara Errani. So, it means that her comfort level at hard and clay surface is supreme.
However, when it comes to the grass court; her form sees a major slump and she in unable to grab anything from the green surface season. There was no surprise at all on her first round loss at Eastbourne at the hands of the Belgian
qualifier, Kirsten Flipkens. She was coming from a semi-final run at French Open and couldn’t last a single match on grass court warm-up tournament. Such is the misery of the 28-year-old Aussie who has failed to prove her worth on grass.
It will be her 10th Wimbledon Championship campaign on Monday. She was plonked in the opening round of the last two editions of the tournament and now she believes that enough is enough and the misery has to end in 2012.
She commented, “I've struggled on this surface because you can't just hit a good kick serve wide and try and work the point with a forehand to the open court. It's just not quite as easy as that, to use the things that I want to
use typically on this surface. I've got to realise that and maybe structure my points a little bit differently. I've got be prepared to maybe take a bit more risk on some second serves and hit more slice serves than I usually do and not panic when I get down
love-30 and think if I use this it's going to be really hard to win the point.”
Stosur is ready to put her body on the line for the sake of Wimbledon Championship. She wants to end the drought of victories on grass court and prove to the world that she is a versatile player who can adjust to any surface very
easily. She will definitely be under the cosh in the starting phase of the tournament. However, if she manages to pass the early stages of the event she will feel better and get in the flow. It is just a matter of time before she regains her momentum at grass
court.
