Samantha Stosur is determined to improve in 2013 – Tennis News
World number nine, Samantha Stosur, is not happy from her performance in the last season and wants to improve the record at every field in the coming year despite a tough competition.
She entered the limelight after capturing the US Open title in 2011 but never managed to live up to the expectations of her fans. She only reached one more final in the 2011 season but failed to win it.
While conducting a press conference prior to the start of the New Year, Stosur said, “I didn't handle it and didn't perform very well at all (in Australia) last year. It was really disappointing. If anything, it will spur me on to do better this year.”
She further added, “Even though Stosur failed to win a title, she is relatively satisfied with her efforts that included reaching the final at Doha and Moscow and the semi-finals in four other events, including the French Open. Overall it was quite a consistent
year, but I suppose if you're not holding a trophy at the end of one of those weeks, makes you think it's not quite so good.”
Stosur started the 2012 season as the sixth ranked player in the world. She had ample chances to regroup at her home soil before the season gathered pace but could not find the right combination of shots in Australia. She was the top seed contender in the
Brisbane International but lost in the second round. Moreover, the 28-year-old Aussie was driven out of the competition at the Apia Sydney International in the opening round. She entered the draw of the Australian Open as the sixth seed player but fall victim
to an opening round upset that inflated her frustration.
However, not every season is the same. Aussie fans hope that Stosur will regain confidence especially after a late blitz in the Kremlin Cup at Moscow that allotted her chance to add another title to her tally. She reached the semi-final of the Toray Pan
Pacific Open as well as HP Japan Women’s Open prior to the tour of Moscow. Hence, the scenario looks favourable for her to register a successful year in 2013.
