Samantha Stosur is out there to prove that US Open title was not a fluke – Tennis News
World number seven, Samantha Stosur, is out there in New York to defend her US Open title. She contested the battle of her lifetime against the former world number one, Serena Williams, to claim her maiden Grand Slam title.
It was the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 misery that struck the American people with major grief. It is said that lightening doesn’t strike twice at the same place but the American top star bowed down to the underdog
like Stosur and that was a major displeasure for the local spectators who jumbled up at the arena to witness Williams lift yet another Major title.
However, it seemed like a twist of luck for the Aussie superstar at that time but she is back out there to prove it that she deserved to win the title. She might not be the favourite to repeat the heroics this time around but she
is definitely capable of pulling up yet another exciting run.
She stated, "Even if I don't win the tournament, I don't think it was a fluke anyway. Of course you want to come back and do just as well as the year before. I have been trying hard and training well and I'm really looking forward
to this year's tournament. You don't come back to defend a grand slam every year or every tournament, so it's good. It's exciting."
Talking about the favourite player of the tournament, the 28-year-old Aussie said, "Serena is probably the favourite coming in given her recent form. No matter who you are, I don't think you can really deny that. It is what it
is. It doesn't really matter."
Stosur remembered the moment when she dispatched Williams in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 last year to claim the title. She called it an unforgettable moment of her career. No one saw it coming and doing something extraordinary always
gives a feeling of excitement and joy.
The tournament will commence from the 27th of August at the hard courts of New York. Williams is expected to win the title and has been chosen as the favourite by bookies as well who has rated her 9/11.
