Samantha Stosur reckons Bernard Tomic needs an attitude shift – Tennis News
Australian Samantha Stosur has taken into consideration the issues related with the attitude and game style of the 52nd ranked Bernard Tomic.
The 20-year-old had a frustrated season in 2012, witnessed a terrible slump in his form and had several attitude problems when it came to the Davis Cup playoffs. He has recently been axed by the Davis Cup team captain of Australia over the troubles that
has increased the distance between the player and the authorities.
While conducting a press conference, the ninth ranked Stosur was queried about Tomic. She bluntly stated (while addressing the compatriot), “What are you doing? Do you want to play tennis? If you are, then give it 100 percent because you only get one crack
at it. He's going to have to decide what he wants to do and how he's going to approach his career.”
She further added, “Until that improves in a lot of people's eyes, he's going to have to deal with things like being dropped out of the Davis Cup team. That's probably the most disappointing thing for a lot of people on the outside. So I think everyone would
like to see him knuckle down and do his best and see where that gets him.”
Since the pleasant surprise of quarter-final appearance in the Wimbledon Championships, last year, the 20-year-old Tomic has never seen a similar consistency in his form. He reached the career-high ranked of world number 27 in the midst of the current season
but drowned miserably in the backlash of hullabaloo surrounding his performance and attitude.
He failed to win a single match in the six consecutive tournaments including the terrible show at Gerry Weber Open, AEGON International, Wimbledon, Mercedes Cup, Gstaad and Olympics. Tomic lost to the German player Florian Mayer and Australia was dumped
out of the World Group of the Davis Cup courtesy to that terrible performance which was tagged as ‘disgraceful’ by another Aussie great, Pat Rafter.
Tomic has not won a single match in his last three tournaments of 2012 as well that forced him to end the poor year with an awful record of 29-27.
