Australian tennis ace, World No.6, Samantha Stosur, has confirmed her appearance in the most prestigious tournaments of Australia, Apia Sydney International tournament. Stosur featured in the last year Sydney tournament and reached
till the finals before she lost at the hands of the Reigning World No.5 of China, Li Na. She returns to the arena with full confidence and makes to make a strong impact and clinch her first title at her native soil. She will have full support of home crowd
that are eager to see their tennis star in action.
Tournament director, Craig Watson, was extremely delighted to make this announcement and praised the new entrant, Stosur, for her hard work and achievements throughout the season. He said, “Sam's US Open title really capped off
an amazing couple of seasons for her and I am sure everyone will be thrilled to see her play in Sydney as our newest Grand Slam champion. As one of the form players on the WTA Tour at the moment, Sam could very well take out her first title on home soil in
front of a parochial Sydney crowd this January.”
Stosur loves Sydney and expresses her delight for signing the contract for this tournament in following words “Sydney is one of the best cities in the world and I spend all my pre-season training there at Sydney Olympic Park, so
playing there is really special for me”.
World No.6, Stosur, stated that she has been to Sydney many times and played several tournaments, however, her title gallery is incomplete without the Sydney International title. She further explained her desire to win this title
by stating that this tournament title is one of the top priorities in my ‘to do’ list.
Australian tennis ace has been hitting the headlines ever since her first Grand Slam title in at US Open last year; she also reached to the final of French Open in the same year. She reached her career top rank of World No.4 earlier
this year in February but her inconsistent and early exits in the tournament following February she slipped two places to No.6 in world rankings.
She recently featured in Istanbul tournament and reached the semi-final of the tournament where she lost at the hands of the tournament champion Petra Kvitova. Her recent form will definitely help her to reach the advance rounds
of the tournament in Sydney and support from the local fans will definitely boost her morale to perform heroics and clinch her first title win at her soil.
The tournament is scheduled to be played in 2012 from January 8-14.
