Samantha Stosur to kick off next season at 2012 Brisbane International – Tennis News
Winner of this year’s US Open singles championship, Australia’s number one, Samantha Stosur, has announced that she will take off his WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) tennis campaign from the Queensland next year. She will take
part in the Brisbane International Championships as the number two seed to start off the next WTA season in front of his home crowd.
Currently holding the seventh spot in the women’s rankings, Stosur is having a lay-off from the professional tennis at home on the Gold Coast and will start the Australian summer from the very first tournament of the season in
Brisbane.
“It is a very exciting time for me and it is great to be able to come home and share what has been a huge achievement with my family and friends in Queensland,” Stosur said. “It also seemed to be the perfect time to confirm that
I would be back again in January to play at the Brisbane International. It is my home State and home tournament and I can’t think of a better way to kick off the tennis year. I have always enjoyed playing at the Brisbane International. It has great facilities,
a fantastic atmosphere and a Queensland crowd who really love their sport and support me year round.”
27-year-old Aussie is excited to see the new facilities being introduced at the Queensland Tennis Centre, as this year’s floods have done some serious damage to the graceful arena. She believes that the facilities will be even
better this time and she can’t wait to begin his voyage at Brisbane International.
Cameron Pearson, the tournament director, was extremely excited on Stosur’s commitment to become a part of the field in Queensland. He cited that he is really thrilled to see the Australia’s number one tennis player competing in
his home town after her emphatic victory at the US Open this season.
The Aussie veteran has displayed tremendous performances at the US Open, Cincinnati, Toronto, Eastbourne and Rome this year, making her one of the strongest contenders for the Brisbane title next season. Winning the US Open title
made her the first Australian tennis player to win a Grand Slam in New York in 10 years, as the similar feat was achieved by Lleyton Hewitt in 2001.
Stosur took off her 2011 campaign from Brisbane as the top seed but was stunned by the brilliance of the unseeded fellow compatriot, Jarmila Gajdosova, in straight sets, 2-6, 4-6, in the second round of the event. A lot more is
expected from the Grand Slam winner this time and let’s hope she delivers it this time round.
