Samantha Stosur would play next year’s Family Circle Cup – Tennis News
Australia’s best player on the WTA Tour, Samantha Stosur, has become the first player to confirm her participation at the 2013 Family Circle Cup that will be organized from March 30 to April 7.
The Australian number one will be appearing for the seventh time at this tournament. Family Circle Cup is an outdoor clay event, which is held in Daniel Islands, Charleston in USA.
Confirming her participation at the event, Stosur said, “I’m excited to return to the Family Circle Cup again this year. It’s one of my favourite tournaments and whenever I get the chance to play in Charleston, I always look forward
to it.”
The Australian star, who joined the list of tennis legends of her country by winning the US Open last year, is a former winner of the Family Circle Cup. The Gold Coast, Australia resident defeated Russian star, Vera Zvonareva,
to capture the singles title here in 2010 and won the doubles crown with Lisa Raymond in 2006.
Stosur recently claimed her 400th career match win on the WTA Tour by beating Alize Cornet in the second round of the Kremlin Cup.
Meanwhile, Stosur’s countryman, Lleyton Hewitt, has confirmed that he would take part in next season’s AAMI Classic in Kooyong, Melbourne.
The tournament will be held in January and it will mark this event’s 25th Anniversary. There are chances that next season would prove last one of Hewitt.
The former world number one will be joined by Argentinean star, Juan Martin Del Potro, Japan’s Kei Nishikori and Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus at this ATP World Tour 250 outdoor hard court event in 2013.
Tournament director, Colin Stubs, said while talking to the reporters, ''We are delighted with our player commitments thus far and look forward to celebrating our 25th anniversary by staging a sensational event, jam-packed with
great tennis, great entertainment and initiatives such as 'Kids Day' on the Friday.''
These are the first four signings of the total eight to be made for the AAMI Classic. It has gone good for the tournament so far, as all these four players carry good fan followership.
