Samantha Stosur’s coach working on adding more Grand Slams to the Aussie’s tally – Tennis News
David Taylor, coach of Samantha Stosur, has revitalized the plans for the upcoming season. He is looking to nurture the 28-year-old Aussie in such a fashion that will help her to add more Grand Slam titles to her tally. She won
the US Open in 2011 and cruised into the Top-10 category; cemented her position and ended the current season as the ninth ranked player in the world.
However, Taylor isn’t happy from this result and wants to improve the game style of the Aussie powerhouse who has immense potential to be the biggest threat in any tournament’s draw. She doesn’t want her student to be called as
the "one-slam wonder" by the end of the following season.
Taylor told the AAP reporters, “She's definitely worthy of more than one grand slam. Her ability is a second major; especially given she can be so dominant on clay. I had so much on my plate and I've got two young girls now and
it's pretty hard to do both.”
He recently stepped down as the Federation Cup captain of the Australian team to focus on the grooming of the 28-year-old Stosur. Adding about that, he said, “You've got to have a fulltime commitment to the player and it just got
too much and Sam didn't want anything less than 100 per cent.”
For the next year, the goal of Taylor is to bring the US Open 2011 Champion back in the Top-four category at least. He stated, “That is the goal now and it's not something far-fetched. Anything you do that's less than your highlight
is less than your potential. Sam is definitely a better player than nine in the world.”
Stosur registered a fourth successful season on the trot. She ended up with a decent 44-24 record this year. However, her performances in the latter stages of the tournament were a major disappointment. She only reached two finals
in 2012; Qatar Ladies Open at Doha and Kremlin Cup in Moscow. No titles left her coach a bit gutted but Taylor is confident that Stosur will bounce back in 2013 with more trophies under her belt.
