Samasana completes hat-trick at Southwell – Horseracing Update
Ian Wood’s black filly, Samasana, completed her marvellous hat-trick by winning ‘Golf And Racing At Southwell Handicap’ on Tuesday, February 21 at Southwell horseracing course.
The three-year-old brilliant runner elegantly beat the 5-4 hot favourite opponent, Pelican Rock, by a margin of 3 lengths and bagged a much needed victory.
Starting with her maiden triumph on February 7, 2012, the Paddy Barrett-owned filly has won three big contests in a row, establishing herself as a favourite runner and exposing her inherent talent well.
Samasana’s all three triumphs have come at Southwell track where she has always been impressive since the beginning of her career in April 2011.
In yesterday’s Class 6 race of 1m standard distance, the victor ran against five rivals including Pelican Rock, Smart Affair, J J Leary, Canning Vale and Angel Warrior.
The contest began at 2:20 (GMT). Samasana seemed to be in good form from the very beginning. Her jockey, Tony Hamilton, rode her meticulously through all odds and challenges till reaching the finish line.
Following the race, Wood showered immense applause on his talented pupil, claiming that she would carry forward the winning momentum and bring home further iconic titles during the calendar year.
Among other runners of the Handicap, Pelican Rock bagged 2nd position while Smart Affair finished 3rd.
Despite being the top favourite runner, Tom Dascombe’s second finisher could not run to his best capacity. He was driven by Richard Kingscote.  Since his debut in September 2011, the black gelding has been winless.
Smart Affair could also not be able to perform confidently, suffering fourth straight defeat since the start of her career in August 2011. The black filly is trained by Rod Millman.
J J Leary finished fourth in the race while Canning Vale and Angel Warrior notched up the fifth and sixth spots respectively.
At the end of the event, the topper bagged £1,704.25 while the second and third position holders earned £503.25 and £251.75 respectively.
By and large, it was an amazing competition. The spectators enjoyed it a lot. However, the bookmakers were somewhat disgruntled as their favourite runner had not been able to thrive.
