Samba stripped of Blackburn captaincy
Blackburn manager Steve Kean has stripped Christopher Samba of the Blackburn captaincy following his outburst against the club owners. The defender has made around 130 appearances in his four years at the club, finally earning the captain’s armband at the
start of the season. It was Sam Allardyce who awarded Samba with the honour, and the defender recently spoke out against the manner in which his former manager left the club. Samba was furious at the way the new owners dismissed Sam Allardyce, just 26 days
after buying the club. Blackburn players have all voiced their disapproval at the move, and Christopher Samba was the latest to protest against the sacking.
Samba said, “If this is the way the club's going to be run from now on, I don't want to be part of it and I want to leave. As captain it's very difficult to say this but I've thought long and hard about it.” His outburst has forced caretaker manager Steve
Kean to strip Samba of the captaincy. The defender did not feature in the 2-0 loss to stoke at Ewood park after failing to pass a late fitness test. However, Steve Kean said that if he had played, he would have done so without the captain’s armband.
Speaking to the media after their defeat, Kean said, “Christopher would have played but he wouldn't have been captain because at the moment he is looking to possibly get away from the club. Until he can come back and say he is happy to stay I think we'll
look elsewhere in the club.” Kean has been appointed as Blackburn manager until the end of the season by the club owners. But at the same time, they are actively looking for a high profile manager to replace him. It’s a difficult time for Steve Kean, as both
the players and the fans are still getting over the dismissal of Sam Allardyce. Kean has to win the hearts of the team and the supporters before he can even begin to bring Blackburn’s season back on track. to help matters.
