Sameer Bhagwat, Varun Madhukar rule in Men’s Doubles event - Amanora Cup Update
Men’s Doubles experts Sameer Bhagwat and Varun Madhukar Khanwalkar forged a fruitful chemistry in the final round and clinched the title in Amanora Cup on December 30, 2012.
They locked horns with Ameya Prashant Oak-Narendra Patil in local badminton complex of Pune, India and their meeting ended with decisive figures of 21-14 and 21-11.
Sameer and Varun laid foundation of their supremacy straight away in the beginning of first set and maintained an upper hand until last shot was played.
The opposing team failed to rise from the dust throughout this crucial battle and surrendered after receiving 2-0 defeat.
In the opening game, Sameer and Varun played cautiously in the beginning and their approach resulted in a tight margin.
However, they did not take much time to gain the required momentum and left their competitors far behind on the points table.
They made best out of this initial advantage and transformed it into an unassailable lead before the interval.
At the half time, Sameer and Varun were enjoying a commanding position with a decent total of 11.
After the mid-game break, both Indian shuttlers lost focus for a short span of time and allowed their compatriot players to narrow the gap.
The twosome of Ameya and Narendra squandered this counterattack opportunity as they could not go with same flow in next couple of rallies.
Their fluctuated performance ultimately cost them a valuable match point and they had to surrender after reading 14-21 score.
Next game was also a sheer disappointment for them as they failed to counterbalance the situation and knelt down tamely.
On the other hand, Sameer and Varun showed consistency in their performance and sealed a splendid straight-set victory.
They started the beating after few establishing rallies and then injected more intensity in their attack to push their challengers on back foot.
They proved themselves superior technically and tactically and finished first half of the set with an indomitable total of 11.
They did not show mercy even after the mid-game break and wrapped this showdown with a convincing lead of ten points.
Sameer and Varun registered an overwhelming figure of 21-11 and earned the right to be on top of victory stand.
