Sameer Verma topples Mayank Behal in qualifying round of 2013 India Open

Men’s Singles player Sameer Verma served notice of his potential and defeated Mayank Behal in the qualifying round of Yonex Sunrise India Open on Tuesday, April 23, 2013.
This hard fought tussle prolonged to 36 minutes and both compatriot shuttlers kept the audience intact while piling up final figures of 15-21, 21-8 and 21-14.
Sameer Verma took some time to read his rival’s game and lost first set with 21-15 margin. However, he managed to tip the scale in his favour by winning ending two games with 21-8 and 21-14 scores.
On the other hand, Mayank squandered his efforts in last two sets and bid adieu to this Super Series.
He established a strong grip by unleashing a series of productive strokes in the beginning of first set. Next couple of rallies saw him making a swift progress on the points table.
He did not give his rival even a single opportunity to come back and finished first half of the set with an unassailable lead.
After the mid-game break, Mayank played with great precision and registered an overwhelming score of 21-15.
However, the story was entirely different in next game as the suppressed shuttler of previous set managed to rise from the dust.
This time, young Sameer showed maturity in his craft and earned great admiration. The budding Indian shuttler alarmed his opponent by claiming many points in a row and then doubled his total in no time.
He ruled the court in couple of back-to-back rallies and got into commanding position before interval.
After the half time, Sameer injected more intensity in his attack and confined the opposing shuttler in the rear court. He maintained a significant difference on the points table and won this crucial game with 21-8 score on the board.
This development turned third set into the survival of the fittest war as both contenders were looking to pocket the final match point.
Initially, they remained toe-to-toe but then Sameer Verma showed his real class and left his challenger far behind. He did not show mercy in any part of the game and sealed his splendid victory with 21-14 total.
