Sami Khedira about to ink deal with Real Madrid
According to Stuttgart, their German international midfielder, Sami Khedira is as good as a Real Madrid player already. An official statement was released on the German team’s website stating that a deal had been agreed for the 23-year old player which would see him leave Germany and move to Spain. The deal is set to be completed once the German midfielder completes a medical at the club. Considering his physical fitness, experts predict that it’s already a done deal.
The deal is rumoured to have been worth around 13 million pounds, which no matter what angle the experts may take, is a bargain for the player. Khedira, who is only 23 and on top of his game, has probably been the bargain buy of the season till date.
It is fairly obvious that Stuttgart’s management were more than reluctant to let their star player leave. Managing Director Fredi Bobic was reported to have said, “We can understand Sami’s wish to further his career at Real,” “We wish him great success with his new challenge in Madrid.”
Once the deal is inked, Khedira will become Real Madrid’s new boss and Jose Mourinho’s second signing of the summer. This will be due to the fact that earlier in the month, he had completed the capture of Argentine winger Angel Di Maria from Benfica. Two Madrid greats, Raul and Guti were made to depart from the club earlier this month as Mourinho started to build the team for his era and for the club’s future.
Khedira had previously been linked to numerous other teams as well, including Chelsea who are the current reigning English champions. Khedira has had twelve caps for the German national side which is an astonishing feat considering he managed to make the break through to the first team for Germany just earlier this year. His World Cup career was given a boost due to an injury to German captain Michael Ballack. Ballack had an injured ankle and was ruled out of the tournament and the only other German player who was considered to be capable enough to play in that position was Khedira.
He surprised everyone including his own coach by displaying some tremendous performances throughout the tournament. He teamed up with Bastin Schweinsteiger in the German midfield and they became one of the most lethal midfield combinations during the run in of the World Cup. His World Cup ended on a high note as Khedira managed to score his first international goal for Germany in the third place playoff against Uruguay.
These spectacular performances in South Africa were noted by top European clubs, but these performances also led to a soar in his market value, which is why most teams, players and fans will be surprised to find out that Madrid managed to sign him for a meagre 13 million pounds.
What else is interesting is how the Spanish La Liga has become the preferred destination for players. Players prefer to play for Barcelona and Real Madrid over Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal. This could only mean that the dominance that the English Premier League once had is fading fast.
If Khedira can play at the same level that he did during the World Cup, then he will be an instant hit at the Bernabeu.
