Sami Khedira in Real Madrid – Addition to “great” German Players
As the summer transfer window opened; many clubs had already eyed the players that they wanted to sign for themselves. The Spanish La Liga winners, Barcelona, signed their man David Villa right before the FIFA World Cup 2010 and saw how impressive he was. Manchester United signed the Mexican youngster “Chicharito”, who was amazing during the FIFA World Cup 2010 and was recorded as the fastest player of the tournament. The Mexican youngster has very quick legs which help him during his runs on the field.
With amazing talent shining during the FIFA World Cup 2010, many clubs eyed the players that they wanted and waited for the country’s squad to return. Germans brought in a very young team and were expected to fail miserably during the tournament as their “main man”, Michael Ballack was injured right before the FIFA World Cup 2010. Even though they did not have too many “star” players in the team, their team chemistry was simply amazing as Loew brought his team to the field for their first FIFA World Cup 2010 match.
Their first match was against the underdogs, Australia and the Germans were expected to win; but what they did was total annihilation of the Australian team. The Germans won the match 4-0 with players like Thomas Muller and Ozil, shining for their country. Germany then suffered a loss against the Serbians as Klose was red carded and had to leave the field but they still managed to defeat Ghana in the last match, and qualified for the pre quarter finals.
In the pre quarter finals, the match looked to be very tough and they had to face England; but they took an easy 4-1 win against the English side to meet Argentina in the quarter finals. Argentina had an “all-winning” World Cup till then, but the Germans totally shattered the Argentinean dreams as they won the match 4-0 to qualify for the semi finals which they eventually lost to the Spaniards.
Even though Germany could not go to the final and only managed to get a third position after the FIFA World Cup 2010; many young players like Khedira, Ozil and Thomas Muller, shined for them throughout the FIFA World Cup 2010. With Jose Mourinho being a part of the Spanish giants, Real Madrid, this season; it was expected that he is going to sign many players to strengthen his squad even more. Sami Khedira was Germany’s defensive midfielder and was able to impress the Portuguese coach, Jose Mourinho. Mourinho signed Sami Khedira as he joined the German “hall of fame,” in Real Madrid. Below are the players that were a part of Real Madrid and are recorded as “Legends” for the Spanish team:
Guenter Netzer:
The Legendary attacking midfielder was at his peak during 1975, and was part of the Spanish team. Their Spanish rivals, Barcelona, had Johan Cruyff and Real Madrid thought that Netzer was the man who could compete with him. In 1975, he helped the team win the League title even though during his recent years at the club, he struggled too much.
Paul Breitner:
He was part of the German club Bayern Munich and then he joined “the Blancos.” The amazing defender was regarded as “one of the best,” at that moment but the Serbian coach during that time, Miljan, turned the centre back into a midfielder. With him being a part of the Spanish club, he won 2 league title and Copa del Ray, before leaving the club in 1977.
Christoph Metzelder:
He came on a free transfer to Real Madrid in 2007 and became the centre back of the Spanish club. Even though he was part of the bench due to injury plagued seasons in Madrid, he still managed to win one Spanish Super Cup for the Blancos. The amazing centre midfielder is still recorded in the books as “one of the best.”
