Sami Khedira wants to link up with Mourinho
Jose Mourinho made public his intention to sign a box-to-box midfielder even before the World Cup started, leading to a number of papers claiming that Real Madrid would make a bid for one of England’s two central midfielders, Frank Lampard or Steven Gerrard. But after the tournament ended, Real clarified the situation claiming that there was no chance of getting Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard was too old anyway so they would be looking elsewhere.
Sami Khedira, after his impressive performances at the heart of the German midfield alongside Bastian Schweinsteiger, has been mentioned as a potential target for Madrid and although Real have expressed their admiration for the Stuttgart man, there was no real mention of deal being done. However, that seems to have changed following an interview given by Sami Khedira recently.
The 23 year old German midfielder has spoken of his admiration for the Spanish giants, Real Madrid, and their Portuguese coach, Jose Mourinho. After being continually linked with the club he has made public his desire to join them and now it looks like it is only a matter of when Real make a bid for the highly gifted German, and then they will go on and get their man.
A major part of the attraction of Madrid appears to be linking up with arguably the best coach in the world at this moment in time, Jose Mourinho. Khedira had very flattering words to say for the former Inter Milan manager, saying that he admired Mourinho’s football philosophy and had no doubts that he would fit into his tactical set up as he identifies with a system which is solid but quick on the counter.
Khedira has also put to bed any rumours linking him with a move to the German Champions, Bayern Munich. The Stuttgart man has made it clear that if he is going to leave his club for any team, it is going to be Real Madrid.
Although the midfielder has a contract with Stuttgart for another year, the German club will not want to let go of the player on a free transfer and if Real Madrid can make a good enough offer, the deal may be nothing more than a formality.
In the last Bunderliga season Khedira’s impressive performances earned him a place in the German National squad, following the injury to Michael Ballack. During the tournament he put in a number of solid performances and in the third place play off against Uruguay, Khedira scored the winning goal in a game that finished 3-2 to the Germans.
It is difficult to say whether the move to Madrid will be good for the career of Sami Khedira after players like Wesley Sneijder were not given the opportunity to settle into the side. With every change in management, there is an influx of new players and its unlikely that Khedira will get the same amount of playing time at Madrid that he will at Stuttgart so unless something extraordinary happens, the German youngster is better off at his current club where he can gain some experience and then move on to a club the size of Real Madrid.
