Sami keen to prove himself in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 – Cricket News Update
Pakistan pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.
“I am raring to grab the first available chance when we reach Sri Lanka … It’s not everyday you dream of such a prospect after all the disappointments you go through,” said Sami, expressing an optimistic outlook.
“And if all goes well in the beginning, then I may get to play in the one-dayers as well as the Test matches.”
Sami, whose career spans 83 One-day Internationals (during which he bagged 118 wickets) and 35 Tests (with 84 scalps to his name), made an impressive debut in March 2001 during a Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 in Aukland, claiming a total of 8 wickets. However,
his appearances for the national team have been few and far in between, with the paceman having last played for the Men In Green against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in Abu Dhabi in November 2010.
The pacer, who has recently been playing for the Karachi http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dolphins-c781 in the domestic circuit, admitted that while he had been disappointed at being repeatedly overlooked by the selectors, he had never lost hope, and maintained his fitness in the hopes of a
recall. However, having been included in the Test, ODI, and T20 squads, the right-armer expressed his determination to do well, admitting that the Sri Lanka tour might be his last chance to cement a place for himself in the national squad.
“If the opportunities [to play in Sri Lanka] come my way I will give my best to justify the selectors’ faith in my abilities,” said the 31-year-old.
“However, I must frankly admit that this is perhaps the final opportunity which I’m going to get to re-establish myself as an international cricketer.”
The tour of Sri Lanka is due to kick off with a 2-match T20 series which commences on June 1 in Hambantota, followed by a 5-match ODI series from June 7 to 18. The all-important Test series is due to begin on June 22 at the Galle International Stadium.
