Samir Nasri, the new Thierry Henry?
Samir Nasri, a 23 year old from France with roots in Algeria, has turned heads and stolen the limelight one too many times. Nasri is one of the most regarded players and has a high chance of winning the FIFA Player of the Year
award. Some have started comparing him to Cesc Fabregas and believe that he could easily fill his place in case Fabregas decides to leave, to join F.C. Barcelona. Others believe that Barcelona should focus on getting the 23 year old into their squad rather
than Fabregas.
Previously, some people argued that he was not as glorified as had been made by the media. Samir Nasri proved his worth by single handedly giving Arsenal victory over Fulham United. His two superb goals not only won the match for
Arsenal but also took them to the top position on the table.
Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger, thinks that the Frenchman has all the qualities to win the FIFA Player of the Year award. Wenger compares his technique and skills to that of the great Robert Pires, a former winger for Arsenal.
His recent performance supports the fact that the young aspiring player has the vision and presence of mind during a game that great players like Diego Maradona had.
Wenger believes that Nasri’s focus, at the moment, is to prosper individually. He believes that Nasri needs to focus more towards a collaborative effort and work as a unit, since that would help Arsenal stay at the top of the table
and win the title.
"We are in the middle of the season now and I will be happy for him if he becomes Player of the Year - but what is the most important for me is that the club wins," said Wenger.
"The consequence if the club wins is that the players have a chance to win.”
"I believe the priority is not to win individual awards - the most important thing is that the players focus on making their club win."
Wenger also showed keen interest in signing a new contract with the young player, which would keep him with the club till 2015. Wenger said that he believes the Frenchman made the right choice by coming to his club, and that at
such a young age, Samir Nasri has a lot of potential to be among the top brass of football history.
