Samir Nasri signs contract extension with Arsenal
Arsenal midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Samir-Nasri-c32360 has signed a new 5-year contract with the Gunners which will see him remain at the Emirates Stadium until 2016.
It is a remarkable turnaround from Nasri’s previous stand. The midfielder had become a target for some of the biggest clubs in Europe after his spectacular performances for the London club in the ongoing 2010-11 season. Nasri had previously stated that while
he was happy to be a Gunner, he would decide his future with Arsenal after the end of the current season of the Barclays Premier League.
Nasri had said, “I'm always flattered when my name is mentioned in connection with any big club. As things are right now, I feel happy here and I have the confidence from the manager (Arsene Wenger). But things can change quickly in football and then we
could have a new situation. We (Nasri and his agent) promised each other to speak about this subject after the season ends.”
But now the Frenchman has ended speculations on his future by signing a new 5-year deal with the Gunners. The deal will also see Nasri earn a hefty pay raise. The French international will now be earning a remarkable 100,000 pounds per week for his services.
The move will undoubtedly be a huge boost for manager Arsene Wenger. Now that Nasri’s contract negotiations have ended, he can now concentrate on ending the club’s long-standing trophy drought.
Arsenal are in a strong position to do just that in the current season. The Gunners are in with a shot of winning the Carling Cup, FA Cup, Champions League and Premier League crowns.
Even though there is still a while before the match, the focus will be on Arsenal’s upcoming Champions League round of 16 second-leg encounter against Barcelona. The Gunners will be taking a vital one-goal lead to the Nou Camp on 8 March, 2011 thanks to
their 2-1 victory in the first-leg.
Arsenal lie in second place in the Premier League table, one point behind leaders Manchester United.
