Samir Nasri’s stay with Arsenal hangs in the balance
Arsenal’s number 8, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Samir-Nasri-c32360, looks set to think along the lines of keeping his options open with regards to a possible contract extension according to the Frenchman’s agent.
The North Londoners, who recently roped in Emmanuel Eboue with a long-term contract, turn their attention to the former Marseille man in hopes of extending their union. Nasri has arguably been Arsenal’s best player this season.
Netting in a total of 13 goals in all competitions while scoring 9 times in 16 Premier League starts for the Gunners, the Frenchman’s hot scoring form has been vital to the Gunners’ success so far this term.
The attacking midfielder’s current contract expires in 2012 and based on his impressive run presently, the Gunners wouldn’t want to lose him. Ensuring the player’s long-term services also enable the club to shut the door on one
of their most prized possessions’ future and keep pursuing clubs at bay.
A notable club reported to be interested in the player is understood to be Barcelona. The Gunners know all too well about the Catalan club as speculation regarding the future of their skipper, Cesc Fabregas, has been a season-long
debate. In the past, big names such as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thierry-Henry-c34918 and Alexander Hleb left Arsenal for the aforementioned Spanish giants. Moreover, with both sides set to lock horns in the European League, inter-club tension has reached an all-time high.
Turning our attention back to the case under consideration, Nasri has been a valuable asset for the Gunners since joining for a meagre £15.8 million fee from the French League. Nasri’s manager, Jean-Pierre Bernes has hinted that
his client would consider all options before making his final decision over the offered contract extension.
The Frenchman’s agent added: "We're in discussions to extend his contract. Then we will see afterwards what direction Samir wants to take with his career."
Arsenal have had their fair share of disappointments since winning the FA Cup in 2005 against Manchester United. However, while the trophy drought has tested the most patient of Arsenal fans, continued disappointment over the club’s
inability to retain talent – again, the names of Thierry Henry, Alexander Hleb, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kolo-c21278 Toure, etc are brought to the forefront – has been a recurring obstacle in the public-owned club. On that note, while
the North London club may not have the multi-billion backing of an oil rich tycoon, Wenger should do his best to retain the Arsenal number 8 at all costs.
