Samitar to bring the Coronation Stakes for trainer, Mick Channon
Ensuring success in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes (British Champions Series) by entering more than one expectant are Aidan O’Brien, John Gosden and Mick Channon. Mick Channon is battling his luck today with Laugh Out Loud and Samitar. The race will be held at Ascot over a mile on Friday, 22nd June.
If any of the two entries of Mick Channon will be able to take away the £154,535 prize money home or not will become news soon.
Even though Samitar has raced a season extra than Laugh Out Loud, she came into the limelight just recently with a Group 1 success that was the least bit expected. Getting the honour under her belt so close to the Coronation Stakes has made her a worthwhile entry for the spectacle that will be raced out by many accomplished fillies.
Samitar, Rock Of Gibraltar’s three-year-old bay filly out of mare, Aileen’s Gift, won the Group 3 Albany Stakes last year on 17th June at the Ascot over six furlongs.  She escaped defeat by just ¾ of a length and set Inetrobil as the runner up.
The 5/4 favourite of the race, Teolane, ended twelfth on the track set for thirteen.
She finished third on 9th September, 2011 in the Group 2 Barrett Steel May Hill Stakes at Doncaster over a mile. The race was won by Lyric Of Light while qualifying as the 2/1 favourite runner up was Fallen For You.
Fallen For You will be racing alongside Samitar again today.
Her fifth outing once more got her losing a race against Lyric Of Light who was the 2/1 favourite winner of the Group 1 Shadwell Fillies’ Mile on 23rd September at Newmarket over a mile.
Samitar missed the race by a mere head’s difference and thus settled as the runner up.
Her final try of the previous season culminated into a win on 1st October in the £300,000 Tattersalls Millions 2YO Fillies’ Trophy at Newmarket over seven furlongs. The 5/4 favourite of the race led the field by 1 ¼ lengths.
Her kick start of the new season was pretty disappointing with an eighth position and then a dreadful ninth finishing in a grade 1 race.
However, the three-year-old settled all accounts by winning the Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas on 27th May at Curragh over a mile. With Martin Harley onboard, she led the runner up of the race, Ishvana, by one and a half lengths.
The 11/8 favourite of the race, Homecoming Queen, ended fourth.
Samitar will also get to confront Homecoming Queen today. She will once again have Martin Harley guiding her. Both the stable mates have similar odds, 5/1 but which one gets to make the most out of the race, will unfold soon.
