Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer has stressed that the Bavarian giants should not settle for another trophy-less campaign following their disappointments of the last two years. The German club finished runners-up
in the Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League and DFB-Pokal last year.
Therefore, the Bavarian outfit is desperate to win trophies this season. Die Roten have been in great run of form since the start of the current campaign, and the board member has claimed that Bayern should continue their solid
displays if they want to win the league.
The club official believes that the Bundesliga outfit did well last term, but said that they cannot just be good; they have to be the best in the country. He further added that Bayern are targeting all competitions this time around.
Moreover, the 45-year-old revealed that the side needs to do well until May and not just November.
"Last year definitely rates as good, but the fact is we can’t be satisfied with good this season. We're aiming for very good – and that means trophies," he added.
"We can't turn round in May and say: Well, we had a very good phase until early November. We'd make ourselves a laughing stock,” he mused.
The former player stated that if FC Hollywood lose their nerve now, they will be made fun of by their rivals. He conceded that Bayern have been good until now and have the confidence to go all the way.
"Obviously we can be satisfied up to now. And success will give us confidence for the journey ahead, but we can’t allow ourselves to be affected by satisfaction. We have exams to pass this year, and certificates will be handed out at the end," he stated.
Sammer feels that Die Bayern have the credentials to win the Bundesliga title, but said there is no room for complacency. Der FCB are currently top of the table.
