The Bayern Munich sporting director has admitted that there is tough competition for places in the team and hinted that Gomez may not start every game.
Die Bayern have had a busy summer transfer window as they strengthened the team with the acquisition of as many as five players. The likes of Mario Mandzukic, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tom-c35214 Starke have been brought
in to make sure the team ends the two-year trophy drought.
Mario Gomez had a sensational season last term as he scored 41 times in the 52 games played. He carried his form into the European championships earlier this summer and netted three times for Die Mannschaft before the side was
knocked out in the semi-final.
Sammer described Mario Gomez as a great player and admitted that the striker is an asset for Bayern Munich. He insisted that the striker has been responsible for most of Bayern’s goals in the last two seasons and regarded him a
vital part of the squad.
However, the former DFB technical director hinted that Gomez may not start every game for Bayern Munich next season. He stressed that the side will have many options upfront next season with the likes of Mandzukic and Pizarro and
the player who performs will make the place his.
“Gomez has already showed that he is a world-class player. Until now, we had been a little bit short up front. There will be situations in which a player will not play, but Bayern are what matters and everyone has to serve the
club. We will need every player. There will be some difficult situation, but everybody is needed and has to behave properly,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, the sporting director admitted that a move for Javi http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martinez-c24468 has hit the snag over the transfer fee demands from Athletic Bilbao.
“We have not yet checked if Martinez's statements are true. We will look into it but if you look at the transfer fee maybe it would not be the right move,” he concluded.
Bayern have prepared themselves well for the next season but will face fierce competition from rivals Borussia Dortmund for the Bundesliga title.
