Bayern Munich’s sporting director, Matthias Sammer, has admitted that Javi Martinez may still arrive at the Allianz Arena before the transfer window closes.
The Bavarian giants have been in the transfer market for a defensive midfielder. They have been heavily linked with the likes of Javi Martinez and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lars-Bender-c21663 but both Athletic Bilbao and Bayer Leverkusen have been firm not to
sell their prize assets.
The Spanish side put a 40 million Euro price tag on Javi http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martinez-c24468 which Bayern are definitely unwilling to pay. However, it is reported that an agreement may be reached in the next few days with the UEFA Europa League finalists.
Sammer claimed that Bayern have a very strong squad and is certain that the team will succeed in the upcoming campaign. The sporting director added that a conclusion might still be reached in the Martinez saga and is keen to strengthen
the side further by acquiring the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 international.
The former German international admitted that the board has come to a conclusion that the team needs a player in the central midfield which is why the team is in pursuit of players such as Javi Martinez.
“First up: we believe in our team. Second: if we feel, taking into account both sporting and financial considerations, that it makes sense to do something, it might still happen. We've agreed it would be someone for the central
area, which is why we're interested in Javi Martinez,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, the chief insisted that it is not only in his hands to sign a player. He stressed that it is always a unanimous decision among the board to give green light to a transfer.
“If you knew how many players we’ve talked about in recent weeks, you'd realise that transfers are always a unanimous decision at Bayern. If there's anyone to sign, it's not decided by Sammer, it's decided by Bayern Munich,” he
concluded.
Bayern Munich are looking forward to the start of the new season and will be hopeful that they get back to winning ways after two trophyless campaigns.
