Sammy hoping to take limited-overs form into Test series against New Zealand – Cricket News Update
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 captain Darren Sammy is hopeful his side would take the winning momentum from T20s and ODIs against New Zealand into the Test leg of the itinerary, commencing at North Sound, on Wednesday, July 25, 2012.
“…the entire team is looking forward to the Test series and hopefully we can continue the form we showed in the T20 and one-day series,” Sammy said while speaking to media reporters in Antigua, ahead of the Test series opener.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382’s men outclassed the Black Caps in the one-day leg of the tour, winning the two-T20 series at Lauderhill, Florida 2-0, before crushing the tourists 4-1 in the five-match ODI series at home, earlier this month.
The Windies have not won a Test series against a top level opposition since 2008/09. The only Test series they have won in their last 10 attempts had come against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747, in October last year. However, their impressive form against the Black Caps in the limited-overs series give them a hope of ending the woeful run.
The St Lucia all-rounder is also taking heart from the tour match between the WICB President’s XI and New Zealand Cricket team, where the tourists narrowly escaped a defeat. Several Test squad members, also played in the three-day game and performed strongly.
"We had five or six of our guys playing against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 in the practice game. I think they did it well," said Sammy.
"Kemar [Roach] came back from injury and he had a good bowl. [Shivnarine] Chanderpaul [made 51], [Narsingh] Deonarine scored a hundred, [Assad] Fudadin looked good. The guys who played during the one-day series have had a chance to go home and rest up and come back fresh," he added further.
Sammy also expressed excitement over explosive batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221’s Test return, and is confident his presence in the squad would be a major boost for the Test top order. This will be Gayle’s first Test appearance for the Caribbean side since coming out of the prolonged standoff with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), which kept the Jamaican away from international cricket for more than a year.
