Sammy pleased with his side’s display at Edgbaston – Cricket News Update
Despite the final Test at Edgbaston washing out owing to rain, Windies’ skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382, was still pleased with his side’s display on the middle two days of the match, claiming that it depicted the team’s never-say-die attitude.
The game was marked with frustration as it took the third day for both sides to compete on the cricket field. While http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 were hoping to inflict a second consecutive whitewash on home soil, the Windies were eager to avoid such embarrassing feat after proving
a tough side to beat.
However, rain had the final say as both sides had to spend an exasperating time in the dressing room. Nonetheless, the tie again proved Windies’ credentials as a fighting unit after they put in an improved showing with both, bat and ball. While it is difficult
to say how the tourists would have performed had the match been a full five-day fixture, it certainly has helped them gain confidence for their upcoming limited-overs bouts.
When play finally started on Day 3, Windies were put in a difficult scenario of batting first on pitch which had been dampened due to heavy rain. However, the top 3 managed to provide a solid platform and despite the absence of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Chanderpaul-c2390, their
most bankable asset, the team were able to post a daunting 426 on the board.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/D-Ramdin-c1299 and Tino Best than carried the team forward with a whopping 143-run last wicket stand. In an ideal world, one would expect the top 6 to do
the bulk of the scoring but for Sammy, it simply illustrated the changing times of for Windies’ cricket.
“The sessions of play we got, we dominated - the way Tino Best and Ramdin played for us, not forgetting Marlon and the way he batted throughout the series,” said Sammy.

"We said we would come here with a never-say-die attitude and that last-wicket partnership was just a perfect example. It was great to watch and on that same flat wicket we got five wickets. With more play, you never know what could happen."
