Sammy urges players to keep momentum intact – Cricket News Update
West Indies skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 has urged his men to “stay hungry” and build on their recent World T20 success when they take on lowly ranked Bangladesh in the first Test of the two-match series, in Dhaka, on Tuesday.
The men from Caribbean are high on confidence after clinching their first World Cup title in more than three decades, in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 last month. Sammy and men defeated the Islanders by 36 runs in the latest edition of the World T20 championship to lift the
coveted trophy for the first time in the history.
West Indies’ World Cup triumph was preceded by a clean sweep against a lacklustre New Zealand, across all the three formats, at home. The Windies are currently in Bangladesh to play a full fledged series, comprising two Tests, five One Day Internationals
and a T20I.
While speaking to media reporters ahead of the Test series opener in Dhaka, on Tuesday, the visiting skipper asked his players to keep the winning momentum intact during the month-long tour.
Sammy, who led the West Indies to a 1-0 Test victory over Bangladesh here last year, said his team must maintain the momentum.
"I think World Twenty20 was a great achievement for us but we have got to stay hungry. We can't keep thinking because we won the World Twenty20 that we have turned the corner," said the visiting skipper during a media interaction on Sunday.
"We have definitely improved as a team. We are a bit more consistent and won both the Tests against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 and our mission here is to win all matches in Bangladesh," the St Lucia pace-bowling all-rounder added further.
This is West Indies’ third bilateral tour to Bangladesh, with the former winning the Test legs of the previous two itineraries quite comprehensively, but Sammy is not taking the Tigers lightly.
