Samoa battle past Fiji with ease to win 27-7 in Rugby World Cup clash
Samoa crushed Fiji by a healthy total of 27-7 to clinch their second victory in the Rugby World Cup on September 25 in Auckland. Tusi Pisi played a vital role in his teams’ victory as he scored 15 individual points for Samo.
Samoa picked their best available side for the much anticipated match. They went in with an extremely strong defence to keep the Fijians away from their scoring lines. Samoa had started off the game as favourites because of their good attacking approach
in the ongoing global showpiece. Although Fiji had defeated Samoa in their previous meeting during the Pacific Nations Cup 2011, their recent performance against the Springboks on September 17 had really pushed them onto the back foot.
Fiji decided to go with a few changes in their side after a shameful defeat of 49-3 against the defending champs, South Africa. The Flying Fijians had struggled with their attacking line throughout the tournament so they included some fresh offensive players
in their side.
Samoa gave a tough time to the Fijian side from the very start of the game and scored two back-to-back penalty goals in the first 10 minutes of the match. Tusi Pisi scored both goals for his side and gave a flying start to Samoa. He helped his side further
with one penalty and a drop goal to end the first-half with a 12-0 lead over Fiji. Meanwhile, Fiji failed to open its account before the conclusion of the first part of the match. They had a miserable time with their attack and their defence was even worse.
Samoa continued with the good work in the second half and enhanced their total to 15-0 in the 44th minute of the match. Samoan players kept the Fijians busy at their back lines and meanwhile random attacks really worked well for Samoa. Kahn Fotuali'i
booked the first try of the match for Samoa in the 61st minute and Stowers grabbed another one just eight minute later in the match. Meanwhile, Fiji also produced a try with the help of Netani Talei and Waisea Lunveniyali converted it successfully.
In the end Samoa managed to carry the day with a comprehensive margin of 27-7 and outclassed Fiji comfortably.
