Samoa look to match Scottish passion and fight
Samoan centre Seilala Mapusua believes that his team must match the Scottish fight and passion if they are to record a win in the Autumn Internationals.
Samoa will take on a confident Scotland team at Murrayfield on Saturday 27 November, after the Scots defeated the world champion South Africa 21-17 last weekend.
Samoa have played well on their tour so far and have produced a number of impressive displays, despite losing all their games on the tour.
The team ran Ireland close in their opening match and they were unlucky to lose 20-10, while England also struggled to beat the Pacific Islanders and only managed to win 26-13 at Twickenham.
Mapusua told BBC Scotland that the performance against England was something the Samoans would take heart from. “We asked the boys at the beginning of the game to give a performance they could be proud
of and I think there wasn't one Samoan who wasn't proud of their performance," said the London Irish player.
However, Mapusua admitted that they would face another tough challenge, against a confident Scotland team with a strong pack of forwards and a great defence. "Watching Scotland against South Africa, they
really got stuck in and I think, in the end, it was the defence that won them the game. We know how strong their forward pack is."
Mapusua claimed that it was up to Samoa to show the same kind of fight that Scotland demonstrated in their fantastic victory over South Africa. “They had a never-say-die attitude and I think we're going
to be in for quite a physical encounter on Saturday. We're going to have to match it otherwise we will be going backwards all day,” said the centre.
Scotland will be expected to win after their performance against the Springboks, but Samoa will take some confidence from their results so far and they will know that on a given day any team can win. South
Africa found this out against Scotland last weekend.
