Samoan centre Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu to appear before RFU disciplinary panel - Rugby News
Samoan centre Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu, who was reported for making offensive remarks on social website Twitter after an Aviva Premiership match against Saracens player Owen Farrell, has been asked to appear before the disciplinary panel of Rugby Football
Union on Friday, November 7. Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu has been charged with violating the RFU code of conduct which may lead him to an unpleasant ban.
This is not the first time that the player has made derogatory remarks on the social media website about his rugby rivals.
The player has been representing Gloucester since 2009 and has played 54 matches for club. His last seasons with the team have been seen very without incident but recently he has adopted an offensive approach towards the rivals.
Fuimaono-Sapolu was quoted alleging that Welsh referee, Nigel Owens, is biassed and he expressed his wrath on Twitter while stating that the ref was favouring the rivals. He also criticised IRB of having discriminating attitude towards the associated nations.
After receiving a close defeat by Wales, he accused the body of providing Wales more time for practice than Samoa.
He was then feared to be handed over a six months ban by International Rugby Board, but later on, he apologised the Welsh referee and promised not to make such comments in the future. According to fresh reports the Samoan centre could now face a stern punishment
of six months suspension if found guilty.
The spokesman of Rugby Football Union informed media about the current status of Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu and said that the player has violated the RFU code of conducts’ article 5.12. The statement further reads, “The charges against Fuimaono-Sapolu are that:
On October 29 and 30, 2011 he made, or adopted from other users of Twitter, insulting or provocative comments about Owen Farrell, a professional rugby player, on his Twitter account. Between October 27 and 31, 2011 he made, or adopted from other users of Twitter.”
The spokesman also said that, “Between October 25 and 27, 2011 he made, or adopted from other users of Twitter, critical comments about the Rugby World Cup and the International Rugby Board on his Twitter account.”
However, the future of Samoan player will be determined after he faces the disciplinary panel on November 11.
