Sampdoria sack manager Domenico Di Carlo – Serie A news
Serie A strugglers Sampdoria have reportedly sacked manager Domenico Di Carlo and have appointed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alberto-c4309 Cavasin as his replacement.
Recently, Sampdoria lost to Cesena 3-2 at home and it seems that the club is for sure going to fight for survival in the few weeks left in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
Many suggest that the decision to sack the Italian was largely due to the team’s inability to win games against lower league tabled teams and the aftermath of the loss at home to Cesena was perhaps the final nail in the coffin for the 46-year-old.
Di Carlo took charge of the club from Genoa at the start of the current season after Luigi Delneri left for Juventus. However, Di Carlo failed to impress at Sampdoria. Things deteriorated further when the ‘bad boy’ http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Cassano-c6302 left for AC Milan and their
main striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan in the January 2011 transfer window.
Doria are now in 14th place in the Serie A standings and the former Chievo and Parma coach could not do anything about Sampdoria’s miserable run that has been seen ever since the start of the current season.
Alberto Cavasin has now been appointed as the new man to save Sampdoria’s crumbling existence in Italian top flight and it is thought that the 55-year-old tactician has been hired on an interim basis as the Sampdoria board is going to start their search
for a new manager after the season ends.
Cavasin had been jobless since April 2010 after he was sacked at Bellinzona. However, he has had stints at Messina, Brescia and Fiorentina which means that he brings Serie A experience with him.
Sampdoria have played 28 games so far in the current season and are in 14th place with 31 points, just three behind 18th placed Lecce who lost 2-1 at home to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 on Friday.
Next week, Sampdoria travel to Catania for a Serie A encounter that would be vital for both sides’ chances of staying in the League.
