I'm doing some research for an upcoming book where the two main characters are dining at a fancy upscale French restaurant. I'm thinking it'd be about $100-$200 a plate type of fancy. The female lead character comes from an upper middle class family and would have no qualms about eating things like like escargots, caviar, calamari etc... whereas her date has never tried them and is a bit hesitant to. I need her to order something that most people would think is rather unappetizing but it needs to be a Parisian French dish. I also need her date to order something rather plain/ordinary. And they'll need a bottle of wine that would go well with the meal. I really don't know much about fine dining myself so I have no idea what some fancy dishes might be. (I'm lucky I can Shake and Bake so I really don't have a clue :) Thanks for the help!

  1. fois gras (duck liver). never had it but that is typical. i think it's a spread though

I had rabbit casserole in this really nice Paris restaurant and it was amazing. I don't know if that sounds gross to you, it might to some people.

maybe you should go to a nice French restaurant and investigate there

  2. french fried or saute'd frog legs.  for wine, pinot noir.
