  1. hypertonic solution:salt solution....or anything that are concentrated

    hypotonic  solution:anything dat is dilute....

isotonic     solution:everything dat is same concentraion with its environment

p.s:all of these can be categorized when it is compared to its environment

  2. each sample would have to be compared to its external environment to determine which of the following describes it

for example, if a cell was placed ina  pool of water, where the water had a higher solute concentration (think of the cell as being in saltwater) the water will always move from high -> low concentration (or water potential). this will cause the cell to shrink and it would be considered that the cell has been placed in a hypertonic environment.

if the cell was placed ina fresh water lake, where there is very little of the solute (salt) in the external environement, the cell is said to have been placed into a hypotonic environment. this means that the water will move into the cell (remmeber from high -> low concentration of solute)

an isotonic environement is one where the solute concentrations in both the cell and environment are equal, so there is no move moment of the water of fluids..

hope some of this helped you out!
