Sampras era supporting cast?

Many (myself included) would love to see Pete Sampras or Andre Agassi make a return to the game. It would certainly liven things up. But lets not forget that there were many other great players around during their heyday. Who of the supporting cast would you most like to see make a comeback? I'd say Goran Ivanisevic. He had such a great serve and a penchant for hitting wild and wacky shots (like the forehand winner he hit whilst on his knees against Henman in Wimbledon 01). And who could forget the weird and wonderful assortment of quotes? It would be great to see him back. Who would you pick?

  1. I wouldn't say Goran had such a great serve. Pete had a great serve that was awfully tough to break. Ask Roger. Goran had a fast serve, but he was an emotional wreck. He could hardly make that serve win him a grandslam until late in his career. In today's slower courts, Goran would be eaten alive.

I'd say Edberg. I'd love to see how a classic serve and volleyer would fare in today's game. Would Edberg at his best get blown off by today's baseliners, or would he make life very uncomfortable for them?

  2. I would love to see Michael Chang back in action. His spirit on the court, his energy, his speed..his court coverage.. my god.. they are stil very very fresh in my mind!!! mind you.. he was one of those shorter players who made a mark on the big stage.!!! He had this thing about him which was really contagious.. even i would feel energetic when i watched him play!!

The other would be Pat Rafter!! You have a dearth of serve and volley players these days and he was a true master at that.!! cannot forget that epic wimbledon final he played!! Sampras was definitely a better serve and volley player.. but this guy also had a greaat game.!! Very level headed and a true role model for kids!!

  3. I would say Alex Coretja - the two time french open runner-up.  He's a good player and most memoried for making Sampras throw-up during a thriller quarter-final five sets match in 1996. Michael Chang would be my second choice due to his spirit to the game.  Even he's smaller than most of the player but he outplayed them with his never say die attitude.  My 3rd choice would be Richard Krajicek, Former Wimbledon champion who stunned Sampras in the quarterfinal in 1996.  He is one of the few players to have a winning record against Sampras.

  4. I think the Black Rock Masters has got what its hoping for...Great champs have come out of retirement like Borg and Edberg to name a few...lets wait and see...

  5. Would love to see Boris Becker back for his audacity and Michael Chang for his tenacity. Sergei Bruguera, whose career was unfortunately cut short. He was shaping up to be a player with uncanny flair.

  6. I would choose Borg or McEnroe
