Question:

Samsung DLP overheating on certain sources but not others.?

Trying to trouble shoot this so please reply if you can help. Have a Samsung DLP which is about 2 years old. As the single A/V source I have a Pioneer Elite receiver connected to the TV via HDMI. Connected to the Pioneer I have my comcast box(component and digital audio), dvd and ps3 (hdmi), karaoke(s vid and regular rca audio).

The TV 'overheats'(symptoms of a spent bulb- indicator lights flashing, etc.) when the receiver is using comcast or ps3 as the source but works perfectly when the receiver is sourcing from karoake or dvd. granted the karaoke, which only displays a blue screen and letters doesn't require much work from the tv but the dvd does and it doesn't result in the tv shutting down. I know it's not the bulb because i already replaced it as my first course of action when this started happening about a month ago. Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions? They're all appreciated.

thanks!!

  1. where is the location of your TV if its overheating this can be caused be improper ventilation maybe you have it too close to the kitchen or some other source of heat. or  maybe you have something obstructing the TVs vent path in anycase your TV should not be loaded down by your source. how old is your TV set? how long does the TV normally last with out these other peripherals? have you tried placing a fan to help ventilate it?

  2. Are you sure it's overheating? There can be differences in output levels from a tuner/game/receiver but they wouldn't cause the tv to overheat. You might notice picture or audio problems at worst. You didn't say the model number of the TV so I can't look it up but my guess is that it's an internal problem that isn't actually caused by the source. How long does it take to happen when watching cable tv and how long did you try the dvd for? Also, can you explain the error lights in more detail?
