Samsung Diamond League Highlights - Tyson g*y beats Asafa Powell at Gateshed
Known to the world as the second fastest athlete in the hundred meter dash, Tyson g*y is a personality that demands no introduction. With a personal best of 9.69 seconds to his name in the hundred metre race and 19.58 seconds in the two hundred metre race, he has always assisted in allowing the American flag to soar high with pride at every major athletic tournament. This is further enunciated by his performance at the US Olympic Trials, where he effortlessly set the national record of 9.77 seconds at the hundred meter race. Although an unfortunate injury acted as a hindrance to achieving further success in the Beijing Olympics, Tyson g*y has nevertheless returned to his fabulous form, demonstrating that his desire for fetching accolades and displaying his innate skills is unstoppable.
The recent meeting with Asafa Powell at the Aviva British Grand Prix under the banner of the Samsung Diamond League is a further testimony of Tyson g*y’s excellence. This occasion was being looked forward to with much ado, not only because it provides an opportunity for distinguished athletes from all different ethnic, cultural and national identities to engage and compete in an environment entirely conducive to developing both records and relations, but also it allowed a set up of the world’s two best sprinters, namely Asafa Powell and Tyson g*y. Surely enough, Tyson managed to live up to the expectations of his vastly spread fan following to not only display a fascinating show of spirit, but also bidding farewell to Asafa Powell’s unbeaten run this season, in a mere time period of 9.94 seconds.
While in today’s world of vast visual and technological advancements and prompt enhancements in the spectrum of athletics, the completion time of 9.94 seconds may come across to some as satisfactory but not ground breaking. An important piece of factual knowledge must be brought into attention here : the athletes were performing against a 1.7m/s wind, not only requiring considerably more physical exertion, but also sufficiently articulate skills to combat such external conditions. Regardless of that, Tyson g*y managed to finish 0.02 seconds ahead of Asafa Powell, and that too in his first race of the season. Not only is this a demonstration of the strength of the comeback he has allowed us to observe and applaud, it is also a strong indicator of the love and respect this athlete possesses for this sport.
Asafa Powell humbly admitted that it was partly his lack of attention, together with Tyson g*y’s skilful display that contributed significantly to act as a barrier in his victory. He agreed that he had forgotten it was Tyson g*y he was running against, and hence did not effectively strategize his run in the last 20 to 30 meters. He further added that nevertheless Tyson g*y is an exceptional sprinter, and this statement speaks volumes for itself, since applause and praise by a fellow athlete works a huge way towards being a proof of the calibre of Tyson g*y, and the beauty with which he accepts the challenges of this sport.
Hence, not only is this victory a booster for Tyson g*y in terms of his physical condition, it allows us to prepare ourselves for more victories in the future. Certainly if g*y continues to display excellence of the league he did in the Samsung Diamond League on the 10th of July, the field of athletics will certainly hope to expect many such fixtures in the current year and the ones to come.
