Question:

Samsung PN50A550 Plasma and Gaming?

by  |  earlier

I am considering purchasing a Samsung PN50A550 Plasma HDTV, and I was wondering if this was a good choice for someone interested in playing a lot of video games. It would be used half the time for games and half the time for movies. Would there be significant burn-in issues?

Secondly, what are some opinions on this set in general?

Thanks.

  1. The Samsung PN50A550 is a nice plasma TV but I have a couple of issues with this TV.

    1) This plasma TV still has a very shinny glass screen which does produce a lot of glare & reflections.

    2) I have had problems in the past with burn-in on Samsung plasma TVs.

If you want a plasma TV for gaming, then consider the Panasonic TH-50PZ80U. This TV has a anti-reflective filter that greatly reduces glare & reflectivity (less reflections than a lot of the high-end LCD TVs like the Samsung A650 or A750). I have had very good success with the Panasonic plasma TVs with repect to their burn-in resistance. Finally, the Panasonic plasma TVs all have gaming modes. This feature is significant if you plan on gaming on your TV. This mode does a very good job of reducing the video lag for a real-time gaming experience. Just remember to harden-off  your phosphor the first 100 hours with a plasma TV and you should not have to worry about burn-in.
