Samuel Deduno helps Minnesota Twins annihilate Seattle Mariners 10-0 – MLB Update
Samuel Deduno struck-out a career high nine batters as the Minnesota Twins annihilated the Seattle Mariners 10-0 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Wednesday, August 29 in the third game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball
regular season.
Joe Mauer looked in terrific form as he singled to left in the third inning to break the deadlock and put Twins on the board. Justin Morneau also made his presence felt with an RBI single to centre in the third inning to stretch Twins’ lead to 3-0.
Trevor Plouffe and Josh Willingham hit back-to-back home-runs in the fourth and the fifth to give Twins complete control of the situation. Willingham hit a sacrifice fly to right and Plouffe added a doubled to deep centre in the seventh to deny Mariners
any chance of coming back into the contest.
"I saw the bats shaking before the game. Then we started getting hits," Gardenhire said. "So all we have to do is have a Hall-of-Famer stand next to our bat rack before every game now and we'll be locked in."
"I think tonight is what we're capable of being and doing as a team," Plouffe said in an interview. "We just haven't done that consistently all year. The good teams do that consistently."
However, the star of the show was Deduno who struck-out ten batters to make quick work of Mariners’ batting line-up. Using his fastballs and curveballs to great effect, the starting pitcher gave up just two hits in seven solid innings to grab his fifth win
of the season. He will be looking to continue his good work to help Minnesota end the season on a positive note.
"Today I came out aggressive with all my pitches," Deduno said. "Fastball, changeup, curveball. Everything was working today."
"Their guy was really good today," Mariners’ manager Eric Wedge said.
With their win, the Twins also managed to keep the series alive and it will be interesting to see if they can get the better of Seattle in the finale to split the four match series.
Minnesota will be happy with their performance as they completely dominated the Mariners to take a very impressive victory.
