Samuel Deduno helps Minnesota Twins upset Boston Red Sox 5-0 at Fenway Park – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins upset the Boston Red Sox 5-0 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Thursday, August 2 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Manager Ron Gardenhire will be very pleased with what he saw from the Twins on Thursday. The Red Sox came fresh off their triumph against Detroit Tigers and they were looking to build on some much needed confidence to stay in the playoffs race.
Boston Red Sox also had the home conditions working in their favour but the Twins were too hot to handle on Thursday as they secured a comfortable win to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
Starting pitcher Samuel Deduno showed just what he is capable of as he carried a two hitter into the sixth inning to lay the foundations of an impressive Twins’ victory. Showing great composure and maturity, Deduno grabbed his third win of the season. Relief
pitcher Glen Perkins pitched two scoreless innings to help the Twins shut-out the Red Sox.
"My curveball and my slider are pretty good, but my fastball is still moving like crazy," said Deduno in a post game interview. “This is the most fun. This is the dream to play in the big leagues and to stay not just for one month or two months.”
"He's got a very live fastball," said shortstop Brian Dozier after hitting a mighty home-run to left in the ninth. "It cuts. It sinks. It rides. I don't know how he grips it, but he just kind of shoots for the middle of the plate."
Denard Span provided the Twins with an excellent start as he doubled to right in the third to break the deadlock. Brian Dozier scored to put Minnesota on the board. Ben Revere also made his presence felt with an RBI single to shallow left to make the score
2-0.
Ryan Doumit’s double right in the sixth gave Minnesota complete control of the situation. Dozier homered to left in the bottom of the ninth to end the game on an extremely aggressive note for his side.
