The Italian international believes that the Cameroonian’s exit took a lot of strength away from Nerazzurri, and cites it as one of the main reasons for his departure.
The Brazilian-born Italian international believes that Inter Milan’s downfall started after the departure of Samuel Eto’o in the summer transfer window.
The Cameroonian international joined Russian side, Anzhi Makhachkala, before the start of the ongoing season.
While talking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Thiago Motta said:
“I think the sale of Eto’o took a lot away from the team.”
Motta, who left Inter Milan for Paris Saint-Germain in the January transfer window, has revealed that one of the primary reasons for his departure was the sale of Eto’o.
The former Barcelona star believes that the striker was an extremely important member of the Inter squad, as he could single handedly change an outcome of a match.
“He was someone who could always make the difference. His sale did have a part to play in my decision to leave.
"It’s true that they have now rediscovered Diego Milito who is a real danger when he is in form. He’s a dangerous weapon, but Inter would have had one more with Eto’o.”
Inter had initially convinced Motta to stay until the end of the season, but the midfielder demanded a move on the deadline day of the transfer window. The exit of the two players has had a significant impact on the slipping performance
of the Nerazzurri this season.
The 29-year-old revealed that he was not motivated at San Siro, and he told the club President about it too.
“I told President Massimo Moratti that my cycle at Inter had ended,” continued the former Barcelona and Genoa man.
The former Genoa star insisted that he always looks for new challenges and the project of PSG fascinated him to join them.
Motta scored 11 goals in 55 appearances for the former Italian Champions, and was an influential figure in their treble triumph in the 2009/10 season.
