Samuel Pizzetti captures Men’s 1500m freestyle title: Day two – 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup
Day two of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup got-off to a flying start with the thrilling performance of Italian swimmer, Samuel Pizzetti, in the long course final heat in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday, October 8. The session of the meet conducted
the Men’s 1500m freestyle final race.
Italy's Samuel Pizzetti, the gold medallist in the 400m freestyle, impressed the arena due to his sparkling swim and clinched the 1500m freestyle title by posting a winning time of 14 minutes and 56.85 seconds. Pizzetti was determined to win the final heat
from the start of the race. More importantly, he used both his mind and physical strength to beat his competitors like Sergii Frolov and Federico Colbertaldo, in this meet. Pizzetti was successful in his planning and tactics as he was able to win the title.
In the corresponding race, Sergii Frolov gave his best attempt and conquered the silver medal by submitting an impressive time of 15 minutes and 04.49 seconds. Moreover, Federico Colbertaldo of Italy was among the top three finishers of the race and earned
bronze medal with a unique mark of 15 minutes and 19.21 seconds.
In the meantime, the effort of United Arab Emirates’ swimmer, Stefan Sorak, was not worthless as he earned fourth place honours by posting a time of 15 minutes and 42.84 seconds. In the corresponding race, the efforts of two other United Arab Emirates’ swimmers
including Velimir Stjepanovic and Alistair Allan were also good in the final heat, as they finished fifth and sixth with a mark of 15 minutes and 51.83 seconds and 16 minutes and 55.08 seconds, respectively.
The impressive swims of all athletes captured the attention of both the judges and spectators at the UAE sports ground. The top three winners of the meet were awarded medals and cash prize of $3000, $1500 and $500, respectively. The second phase of this
seven-stop World series is set to take place in Stockholm, Sweden, where the Australian and Canadian squads will also contest in the event.
