Samuel Pizzetti shines in Men’s 400m freestyle heats: Day one – European LC Championships
Italian veteran, Samuel Pizzetti outshined his opponents in the preliminary rounds of Men’s 400m freestyle on foremost day of the European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Monday, May 21.
Pizzetti stunned the aquatic crowd by overpowering the world record holder, Paul Biedermann of Germany in the qualification rounds of the event.
Pizzetti remained almost one body length ahead of his strongest rival and qualified into the playoff as top contender for gold medal by clocking a time of 3 minutes and 49.65 seconds.
His fastest qualification effort was followed by Biedermann, who proved his mettle for second best qualification spot by producing a time of 3 minutes and 50.43 seconds.
Third best qualification spot of the event was obtained by Gergo Kis of Hungary, who was nearly two body lengths behind and tapped the wall with an effort of 3 minutes and 52.57 seconds.
Fourth best qualification spot of the race was secured by Patrik Rakos of Hungary, who was just 0.01 seconds apart and finished his race with the timing of 3 minutes and 52.58 seconds.
The 20-year-old Rakos was chased by Gabriele Detti of Italy, who was just 0.16 seconds apart and hit the finishing wall for fifth position by reporting an effort of 3 minutes and 52.74 seconds.
Sixth finest qualification spot of the freestyle event was obtained by Sebastien Rouault of France, who remained only two strokes apart and clocked an effort of 3 minutes and 53.06 seconds.
Rouault was followed by Alex Di Giorgio of Italy, who remained slightly slower from his foregoing finisher and hit the finishing blockade as seventh best finisher with an effort of 3 minutes and 53.25 seconds.
Last qualification spot of the 400m event was followed by Evgeny Kulikov of Russia, who  remained 0.10 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing blockade with an effort of 3 minutes and 53.35 seconds.
Furthermore, the crowd appreciated commendable efforts of all participants in the first round of the 400m event while these finalists will face each other in the next session to prove their mettle for top spot on the podium.
