Samuel Vargas nails Manolis Plaitis in the 1st round to win Canada welterweight gold - Boxing news
Samuel Vargas demonstrated sheer raw power to nail down Manolis Plaitis and win the vacant Canada welterweight title at Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.
The event was jointly promoted and conducted by United Promotions and Hennessy Sports and the ring was staged at Hershey Centre situated in Mississauga, Ontario. The 10-round clash between the two young pugilists ended instantly in just the first round.
Samuel did not give any kind of advantage to his opponent Manolis who despite of being in his home country was unable to put up a great fight.
From the beginning of the bout, the undefeated and invincible Samuel overwhelmingly outclassed the orthodox Manolis. This is the first time ever that the young Samuel has been able to collect a knockout win in just the first round.
The bell rang and Samuel unleashed a series of powerful punches that shattered the weak defences of Manolis. As a result of continuous effective pounding, after the passage of just 2 minutes and 49 seconds the 26-year-old Manolis went down on the floor.
Plaitis’ was so much knocked out of his senses that the referee Dave Dunbar had no other option but to break his 10-count and call off the match. It must be kept in mind that Manolis is far more experienced than Samuel. Manolis had the experience of 19 brawls
under his sleeve. He collected 17 wins and lost just one though he did not possess a good knock out percentage yet his experience was the most crucial aspect that gave him a clear upper hand over the Colombian Samuel.
Vargas on the other hand was entering in his careers 10th brawl with an undefeated eight win streak, a small experience and a very low knock out percentage. Despite of all these odds the young lad came out victorious and grasped not only the first ever title
of his small illustrious career but also extended his winning streak to nine.
Samuel has polished his stats to nine wins in 10 clashes and Manolis has tarnished his resume by collecting his careers second knockout loss hence 17 wins in 20 bouts. This win is definitely difficult for Manolis to accept since his opponent lacked all the
advantages such as experience, home country, knock out ratio, and others as compared to him.
Despite of all these facets, the Colombian outwitted the Canadian and proved that he is the number one in Canada in welterweight division.
