San Antonio Silver Stars 79 vs. Los Angeles Sparks 69 – WNBA Game Second Half Analysis
Third Quarter
The San Antonio Silver Stars entered the third quarter with a 10-point lead over the Los Angeles Sparks, 42-32. LaToya Pringle clinched a jumper right at the beginning to cut the lead to eight points, 42-34.
Becky Hammon drove to the rim with 07:47 to go in the quarter to bring Silver Stars’ lead back to nine points, 45-36. The hosts struck back though and trimmed the deficit to four when Jenna O'Hea buried a three with 06:31 to go
in the quarter. In the passage that followed, the Silver Stars again restored their dominance and with nearly three minutes remaining in the frame, Jia Perkins hit a jumper to put the Silver Stars ahead by 54-45.
Los Angeles scored the next three points on free throws and got within six points, 54-48, but Hammon answered with a 3-pointer to make it 57-48.
Sparks responded with consecutive points in the closing minute of the quarter to show only two down, 57-55, heading into the last quarter.
Fourth Quarter
Silver Stars got off to a fast start in the fourth quarter and pushed their lead to ten points, 71-61, with 03:54 to go in the game. Los Angeles tried to pull back and initiated a 6-0 run that cut the deficit to four, 71-67, with
01:13 left on the clock. However, it was not enough as San Antonio took charge of the contest and scored six straight points to take a 77-67 lead with just 33 ticks to go.
Danielle Robinson hit a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to close the game at 79-69. The win improved the Silver Stars road record to a league-best 5-1. On the other hand, it was the Sparks’ third consecutive home defeat.
Los Angeles guard Natasha Lacy, who scored a team-high 14 points in the loss, said of their poor performance at home, "You never want to lose at home, you always want to protect your home court," "We have to get more victories
wherever we play."
Becky Hammon of San Antonio remained the top score of the show with 26 points on an 8 for 15 shooting from the field and 6 for 6 from free throw line.
