San Antonio Silver Stars and New York Liberty win – WNBA Roundup June 26, 2011(Part-1)
On Sunday, June 26, four games took place in Women National Basketball Association (WNBA). Here are the highlights of the games:
San Antonio Silver Stars 92 - Atlanta Dream 86
Jia Perkins came off the bench and pounded a game-high 25 points and eight rebounds as San Antonio Silver Stars gunned down Atlanta Dream 92-86 at Philips Arena. With this victory, San Antonio improved to a league best 6-1record.
Rookie Danielle Adams scored 19 points and grabbed four rebounds while Becky Hammon ended with 17 points, six assists, five rebounds and two steals in the second straight victory for Silver Stars.
Sophia Young had 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists while Danielle Robinson posted 11 points and four assists for San Antonio.
Coco Miller scored a team-high 19 points while Angel McCoughtry punctuated 15 points and eight rebounds. Lindsey Harding totalled 13 points while Erika de Souza chipped in with 11 points, seven rebounds and four blocks for Dream,
who lost their second straight.
San Antonio got off to a good start and held a 22-17 lead at the end of first quarter. Atlanta fought back in the second quarter and carried a 41-40 lead into the locker room.
Trailing by 61-58 with 57 seconds to go in the third quarter, the Silver Stars scored the last five points of the third period to take a 63-61 advantage into the fourth. Dream played aggressively early in the fourth quarter and
raced to a seven-point lead, 78-71midway through the period. Silver Stars inched back though and when Hammon drew a foul from Courtney Paris with 1:53 to go, they took a 81-79 lead.  
McCoughtry hit a pair of free throws on the next possession and the game again went into a deadlock at 81-81. However, Silver Stars scored the next five points to make it 86-81 and never trailed for rest of the period.
New York Liberty 77 – Los Angeles Sparks 67
Cappie Pondexter had 22 points, seven rebounds and five assists as New York Liberty beat Los Angeles Sparks 77-67. It was first victory of New York at Prudential Center, their home for the next three WNBA seasons.
Essence Carson added 18 points while Plenette Pierson contributed 14 points and six rebounds in the victory.
Candace Parker had 16 points while Tina Thompson racked up 14 points in Sparks’ second consecutive defeat.
Carson and Pondexter scored 10 of their points in the first half as New York carried a 41-33 lead at halftime. The Liberty stretched their lead to ten points, 59-49, at the end of third quarter and maintained their lead throughout
the final period.
