San Antonio Silver Stars use a balanced attack to topple Seattle Strom – WNBA Recap
Danielle Adams hammered a team high 13 points on a 5 for 10 shooting while
Sophia Young and rookie Ziomara Morrison added 12 apiece as the San Antonio Silver Stars bounced back from a 3 point loss to Atlanta Dream on Friday night to beat the Seattle Storm 80-67 at the AT&T Center, San Antonio.
Danielle Robinson also added 11 points while Shenise Johnson scored 10 points including two three point shots.
The Silver Stars had a strong shooting performance and received good support from their bench, in what an all round scoring performance. The San Antonio bench outscored their opponents 41-30 and that forced Coach
Dan Hughes in calling the game his side’s best of the season so far.
Johnson revealed after the game how the coach had pushed the bench to deliver;
“Coach put a lot of pressure on us coming off the bench because we didn't play as much the night before,'' Shenise Johnson said. ``He said you all need to come out and give us exactly what we need. I think everybody
took it to heart and did a great job executing.”
On a night when Sue Bird had a horror 1-for-13 night from the floor, Storm were led by Shekinna Stricklen with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Camille Little and Tina Thompson each had 10. Little also hauled down 8 rebounds.
Seattle had a 5-2 start to the game, but five consecutive points by Shameka Christon set the tone for the Silver Stars, who never trailed in the game after that.
Shameka’s charge imitated a 19-2 spurt by the hosts which was capped by bank shot from Young to give her side a 21-7 lead. San Antonio ended the first quarter with a 23-10 advantage and then extended it to 18 points inside the
first four minutes of the second frame.
Sue Bird drilled a three to start a 10-0 run for Storm, but by the time the first half ended, the host had again pushed their lead into double figures, 41-30.
Seattle opened the second half strongly to make it a seven point game, but an 8-2 run stalled their progress. The Silver Stars controlled the game after that and an 11-3 burst bridging the last two minutes of the third and the
first minute of the fourth really sealed the deal for the hosts, who led by as many as 20 points twice in the fourth on their way to a 80-67 win.
