Oklahoma City Thunder take a 13 point lead against San Antonio Spurs at the mid way stage in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals
After failing to hold their lead in the first quarter, the Oklahoma City Thunder playing in front of a capacity crowd at the Chesapeake Energy Arena, stunned the San Antonio Spurs to take a 54-41 advantage into the half way break.
Oklahoma City started the second quarter much in the same way they started the first, but this time they did not allow the Spurs to make their way back into the game. Thunder opened the quarter proceedings with a 13-4 run and continued to pile on the pressure rest of the way.
Kevin Durant chipped in 8 points in the second quarter as well to make his take his tally to 16 points on a 5 of 12 shooting. Serge Ibaka and Kendrick Perkins canned 4 points each and also combined for 4 blocks till the break.
The play of the quarter came from Perkins on the defensive end when he first blocked Manu Ginobili on a three pointer and then stole the ball away to send Durant the other way for an easy deuce.
The energy on the defensive end was just spectacular from the Oklahoma team.
Russell Westbrook made a sloppy play to turn the ball over in the final seconds, giving the Spurs the last possession of the half. However as Tony Parker prepared for a missile from the land of three, Westbrook came from behind to block the shot, ending the first half on a high note.
He had 8 points and 4 assists till the break.
James Harden also had a great second quarter as he erupted for 9 points to lead the bench scoring while Nick Collison also chipped in 4 points to go along with 4 rebounds in the game.
The Spurs got outscored 32-17 in the second period mainly due to the high number of turnovers in the first half alone (13).
Tony Parker had 11 points; Tim Duncan has 9 while the remaining three starters combined to score only 3 points till the mid way point. Manu Ginobili had 8 points at the half way stage.
