San Antonio Spurs beat Boston Celtics 112-100 on the road: NBA Recap
Tony Parker scored a season high 26 points to carry San Antonio Spurs to a 112-100 win over the Boston Celtics here at the TD Garden Wednesday night. The Celtics kept the Spurs in check early on and Rajon Rondo scored 18 of his 22 points in the second half but the Spurs raced to a 12 point win courtesy of some balanced offence.
Spurs' coach Greg Popovich is a hard man to please but was visibly pleased with Tony Parker’s exploits on the night;
“That was his best game in a while. He hasn't really scored; he hasn't been aggressive for whatever reason. He's known it and he's tried to work through it, but tonight he played a complete game."
Tim Duncan was hot as ever as he posted 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds; Tiago Splitter came off the bench to add 23 points while Gary Neal chipped in with 12 points for the Spurs.
Rajon Rondo carried on his double figure assists streak as he scored 22 points and dished out 15 assists, Paul Pierce had 19 points while Brandon Bass chipped in with 16 points. The Celtics allowed the Spurs to shoot 58.4 percent from the field, the highest number the Celtics allowed an opponent to score since 2007.
Boston started off well and were up 10-6 after Jason Terry made a jump shot. A Bass dunk shot put the Celtics up 12-8, but the Spurs found their rhythm soon enough and a 6-0 run put them up 17-14. The Boston responded with a 7 for nil burst to snatch the lead at 21-17 but the Spurs closed the period strong with an 8-2 run and were leading 30-27 as they headed into the second period.
The score was tied on 36 early in the period, and again on 42 a few minutes later. The Spurs started pulling ahead later in the quarter and were leading 56-48 as the teams headed to the locker room.
Boston started the third period sharply; and tied the score on 58 after a Bass jumper. It was a two point game at 74-76 before the Spurs finished the period with a 6 for nil run that left them leading 82-74.
The Spurs started putting some distance between themselves and the Celtics, and were up 92-78 after the early goings of the final period. Rondo scored 5 quick points to cut the deficit down to 87-96 but a Tiago Splitter jumper put the Spurs up 100-88 with 6 minutes on the regulation. The Celtics tried hard and they managed to make it a 6 point game at 98-104. The Spurs however kept their cool and closed the game comfortably on 112-100 in the end.
