San Antonio Spurs blow away woeful Charlotte Bobcats 102-72 - NBA Recap
If there was a “worst team of the year” award in NBA, Charlotte Bobcats would have already won it by now.
They have been completely horrendous so far this season and it looks like they are playing at the big stage for the first time. Their coach, Paul Silas, has tried different strategies, different combinations but, with such undersized
and in experienced resources available, nothing has worked until now.
On Friday night, the Bobcats put up yet another dismal performance and lost by a mammoth 30 point margin, in a game against the San Antonio Spurs, 102-72.
Digit “14” seemed to be the order of the day as five players from both teams, finished with this score.
Richard Jefferson, Tim Duncan and reserve Matt Bonner all tallied 14 points each along with the combined 19 rebounds between them, while Tony Parker finished with 15 points on 7 for 11 from the floor. Boris Diaw and Corey Maggette,
the only players from Bobcats with scores in double digits, marshalled the team with 14 points apiece.
Maggette, like all of his team mates was completely disappointed with the overall performance of the team, especially their poor shooting (37.3%) from the floor.
"I just think as a group we're not shooting the ball well at all, and I start with myself," said Corey Maggette "We've got to be a better shooting team. When you're playing one of the best teams in the league and shoot 30-plus
percent, it's hard for anybody to win."
With scores tied at 12 all midway through the first frame, the Spurs changed gears and rattled a 17-8 spurt, to end the quarter with dominance at 29-20. Spurs continued the good work in the second frame and maintained a double
digit lead for most of the time during the frame.
A 10-4 spurt by the Bobcats, when the scores were 37-27, did get them back in the hunt; however the Spurs responded with another 10-4 run to regain their dominance, ending the first half at 51-41.
Nothing changed in the third quarter for Bobcats as they did not manage to penetrate the Spurs D. By the end of the frame, they found themselves trailing behind 15 points 74-59. Things got worse in the deciding quarter as Spurs
changed gears to boost the lead to 20 points, 86-66 midway through the frame.
There was never going to be any challenge after that.
